What is a good age to take up Ballroom Dancing?
My daughter is almost 13 and has expressed an interest in Ballroom dancing.
My questions are:
-Does it matter that she hasn’t had any dance lessons (tap & jazz) since she was 6 or 7 years old?
-I know they have ballroom classes for adult couples but do classes exist for girls her age?
-Would she need to have a partner to enroll with?
I realize I can investigate dance studios around town but since I know nothing about this I’d just like to have some idea of what to expect or how generally the studios run.

I am 13 and started ballroom when I was 12.
It does not matter if she has had no previous dance experience as at a young age it should be easy to pick up.
and yes they do have ballroom classes for children her age, I have even seen classes for 4 year olds!
No generally you wont need a partner, social dancing classes are great as you dance in circles swapping partners.
I really suggest you get your daughter to try it as i did, and i love it!
Its fine she wants to start, most dance studios have lessons for her age. she wont need any experience becuase she will most likly be put in an begginers class and they will partner her up with another boy taking lessons.

My parents started me with dance lessons when I was 5 ~ ballet, ballroom, tap, hula, all of them. The earlier the better.
Just like the previous answers you got, yes, your daughter can start from the beginners. Should your daughter decide in the near future to become a professional ball room dancer, one must have a partner and to do so, it’s quite hard to find that person because ball room dancing is to feel it with passion as if you’re making love.
The sooner she starts, the more she can learn! Ballroom requires no other prior experience.
She usually doesn’t need a partner.
Different studios have different ways to sell lessons. I suggest you get one that you pay for lesson by lesson, or for a short period of lessons, instead of paying for a large set of lessons. She may decide she does not like it, or does not like the studio- if you pay for 12 weeks of lesson and she wants out in 5 weeks, you forfeit the rest of the money.
You can start ballroom at any age but like with any other sport its best to start as young as possible.

Most studio’s run children classes. I started when I was 13 and went straight to an adult class, in a way I liked it because with adults you dont need to keep repeating things so the class progressed a lot more than a childrens class would have.
Most studio’s have a no partner nesseccery policy. In the class everyone will change partners (so everone gets used to dancing with everyone) so generally beginners dont have 1 set partner.
Studio’s run classes (mostly for beginners) and private lessons (mostly for competitive couples). When your daughter has a partner and they want to get into the competitve scene, you may wish to pull he out of her class lessons and put her and her partner in some private lessons.
On the first lessons the studio wouldnt expect her to have ballroom shoes so just get her to wear her casual shoes to class. After a few lessons the teacher may want the class to invest in some ballroom shoes but im sure the teacher will talk to you about this
Any age starting from 6 is good. Ballroom is more forgiving than ballet – she can achieve the same things starting at 13 or even at 15.

Usually, you don’t need a partner to start the training. Eventually, you need a partner but there is a chance that she can partner up with someone who is in her class or in the same studio.
K i am 15 years old and I’ve been dancing since I was 5 years old. I dont know where you live but in L.A they have plenty of dance classes for kids. I compete and ballroom dancing became part of my life. But in order to suceed you have to put a lot of time and effort in it. It seems easy but it really is not. Good Luck!
