I need some advice from girls?

Alright, there’s this girl in my class, she’s really pretty and I have always liked her. We have never really talked much or anything like that, but these past couple of weeks she has been very friendly with me, always trying to talk to me and so on. We also have these ballroom dancing lessons every week and she always wants to dance with me, this week I caught her smelling my neck a couple of times (I recently started to wear cologne). Under some other circumstances I’d assume she’s flirting with me, but – here’s the kicker – she has been together with this guy from some other school for the past two years. Now I’m not sure if she’s just being friendly, or likes me… So if there are some girls out there who could shed some light on this, please do, because I’m confused as hell here (never been very good with girls).

So right now I teach Zumba classes (latin/world dance fitness) and I LOVE it.. so much that I’m going to start taking private lessons for ballroom/latin style. They want me to wear heels.. between 2-2.5 in. … I’ve never danced in heels so I’m nervous, but more importantly…. what brands should I buy?? I don’t want to spend a ton of money on this… maybe $75 at most? I found a cute pair http://www.danceshoesonline.com/tags/ls_g1.html i like the style and I can get a cute heel at 2.2″ but are they comforable, how well do they hold up? what other brands would you recommend??

I’m wanting to take dance lessons and I’d be a beginner for sure (i’m a young teen with very little dancing experience). I’m wanting to do ballroom dancing.

Here’s what I want to know….
-Different types of ballroom dances
-If it’s ok for my age (a young teen)
-Do you get assigned a partener? Do you always have a partener?
-What sort of things do you learn in a regulare ballroom dancing class/lesson?
-Anything else you know that could help me
-If I got a partener would they be way older than me?
-What would I wear to a ballroom dancing lesson/class?
-Around how much does it cost?

Please help me, I’m clueless but I want to know more about it before getting into it.

Getting married in July and need to take dance lessons!!!?

My fiance and I are getting married in July and he and I rarely slowdance. We both want to feel comfortable dancing to our first dance at our reception and I was wondering if anyone know’s of some good dance classes for couples. We are in the Bay Area. Our song is not a ballroom song, we are torn between a slow R&B song and a slow Country song. Any suggestions with email links would be greatly appreciated.

Why You Need To Learn Latin Dance Lessons

Some people may feel that dancing should come naturally to a person and need not be taught. While this may be true for some forms of dance, other forms really do need instruction. For example, you need to learn Latin dance lessons in order to be able to dance Latin dances properly. When you learn Latin dance lessons, you are training your body to co-ordinate the movements of various parts of your body. Teaching particular parts of your body how and when to move is certainly no easy task, and beginning dancers usually find this extremely difficult. Over time, however, as you learn Latin dance lessons, you will find that your control over your body will slowly improve.

 

Body Movements

 

When you learn Latin dance lessons, you will never learn that it should never be your legs or arms that initiate a movement. Any movement should always start with the body, and your limbs will follow the body’s lead. You will also learn that certain parts of your body that you previously thought you couldn’t move without moving the rest of your body can actually be moved independently. For example, your upper ribcage is able to move in almost any direction – backwards, forwards, or sideways – without your hips moving at all.

 

When you first start to learn Latin dance lessons, you will find it difficult to get your body to move in the way that you want it to. After some time, however, you will realize that all of the joints in your body are connected to each other. Your left knee joint, for example, is connected to your right hip, which is also connected to your right shoulder joint. This is important, as sometimes when you learn Latin dance lessons you will be required to move certain groups of joints all together.

 

Finally, your body should never be still when you are dancing. Whenever there is music playing, your body should be moving. This is because dance is a way for your body to interpret music that you hear.

 

Power from the hips

 

With most movements you find in Latin dance, the power to perform any particular movement comes from your hips. Your hips are able to move in any direction, such as forward, backward, sideways, and can even be made to move in a figure-of-eight design. When dancing, the lady will always use her hips to perform a hip twist in order to initiate a change of direction to the right. The hip twist forms the basis for a good many movements in Latin dance.

 

Due to the greater amount of curves present on a woman’s body than on a man’s, it is only natural that women make greater use of hip movements in Latin dancing. This is the origin of the movements in dance considered ‘sexy’ by many. Women who decide to learn Latin dance lessons should be prepared to make frequent use of their hips. Of course, men need to use their hips while dancing as well, but to a lesser extent.

How Many Ballroom Dancing Lessons Do I Need? (To Be Able to Dance)

One of the questions that I hear most frequently from people inquiring about dance lessons is “How many Ballroom dancing lessons do I need to take to be able to dance”? The short answer is a long time! I must admit that this is the only question that I, a professional dance teacher still have difficulty answering because of how “naive” the question itself is. You see, learning how to dance is a process not a destination. I get a little queasy when I hear a new student anxious to put a number on something that is so individual and not very quantifiable.

Some people are born with a natural way of movement while others need time to start feeling the movement. Some may be tone deaf while others can distinguish musical beats in an instant. One person may practice everyday at home and have a slower progress than someone who does not practice at all (Although most times it is the other way around). There are so many variables that it is impossible for any teacher to tell you off the bat how many lessons you will need to be able to dance. People have different bodies, talents and work ethics. In addition, even when you have taken many lessons and learned quite a few dance moves, it does not mean that when you go out dancing (be it a nightclub, party, wedding), you will automatically be able to lead or follow different people flawlessly. It takes time! It takes time to understand how to adapt your dancing to whomever you are dancing with. It also takes time to not feel nervous when dancing in public!

Dancing is an art as much as it is a science. Your Ballroom dancing lessons will change according to what your needs are at a particular moment. For example, you may have gotten to the point where you are able to dance 10 moves individually with clear leading and timing. Does that mean you now know how to dance and can stop? There is much more to dancing than knowing different moves. Maybe now you can start working on how to get in and out of any move at any time and become better at improvising. Next month, your frame starts drooping and your teacher may do a few review lessons on how to hold your frame. It is a work in progress for both the student and the teacher – Wash, rinse, repeat!

So what I am trying to say here is that “how many lessons do I need?” is the wrong question to ask. The best thing you can do when you are deciding to start dancing is to commit yourself to consistently take lessons. I recommend 1-2 private lessons a week for at least 3 months to start. During those first 3 months have an open mind and just learn, absorb, practice, feel and experiment the dancing world. Hopefully after that time period you will see that learning how to dance is not a linear path and cannot be measured.
