I just started taking ballroom dancing and my crush is in it…should I?
6I just started ballroom dancing lessons. My crush is in the class, and he’s the only one taller than me so I have an excuse to ask. But he’s really popular and I don’t know what he thinks of me. What if he thinks I’m a creep and says no?
Ballroom dancing question?
5Okay , this may seem like a silly question, but I really don’t know , so I am going to ask.
My husband and I have been thinking about taking ballroom dancing lessons. I think it would be a lot of fun. The thing I am concerned about is our height difference. I have observed a class and all of the couples in the class were pretty well matched in height. Anytime I have seen ballroom dancing on television, the couples always seem pretty well matched in heiht. My husband is 6’4″ and I am 5’2 1/2″. Is this generally a problem when trying to learn or is it easily overcome. It just seems to me that this would make things a bit more difficult and awkward? Any advice??
How can I inexpensively become a better ballroom dancer?
5I’ve just completed a 15 week (one-semester), 50 minute per session, twice a week college class in Beginning Ballroom Dancing, and while I enjoy it a lot, I’ve not received good feedback from my instructor regarding my dancing.
Telling me that I’m not dancing well (with no specifics) is not leading me to a specific action plan on how to dance better in the future, so I thought I should ask here and see what responses I can get that I can use to become a better ballroom dancer.
I already plan on re-enrolling under another instructor during the summer term, perhaps at a different college.
I’m living off of savings and financial aid, so professional private lessons are not affordable at this time.
Extremely important: please recommend a general ballroom studio or teacher in the Chicago area?
1My boyfriend and I both work a lot and he’s in the city and I’m in the suburbs. During the week, we’ve decided we’d love to start taking general couple’s dance lessons or small group classes both to improve both of our very VERY basic skills and to have something fun that we can share regularly together. However, the sheer number of studios in the suburbs and the city as well as the daunting task of sifting through all of them is overwhelming me. I would love to hear your opinions, recommendations, and places NOT to try when it comes to weeknight evening adult ballroom private lessons and/or small group classes. 2 important key points though: I would prefer firsthand recommendations AND they cannot be extremely expensive (i.e. Arthur Murray–500 dollars for four lessons? Oy!).
Thank you so so much in advance for your suggestions!
What is a good age to take up Ballroom Dancing?
9My daughter is almost 13 and has expressed an interest in Ballroom dancing.
My questions are:
-Does it matter that she hasn’t had any dance lessons (tap & jazz) since she was 6 or 7 years old?
-I know they have ballroom classes for adult couples but do classes exist for girls her age?
-Would she need to have a partner to enroll with?
I realize I can investigate dance studios around town but since I know nothing about this I’d just like to have some idea of what to expect or how generally the studios run.
Thanks in advance for any helpful information/advice!
I made a mistake in telling this girl I like I’d attend Ballroom Dancing lessons tonight too. How can I not go?
6This question is semi-emergency-ish:
Anyway, there’s this one girl in one of my college classes whom I’ve developed a really good relationship with. I like her a lot, she’s really interesting and we have a ton of things in common. This morning, she mentioned she was going to the first Ballroom Dancing lessons, and I (stupidly) said I’d be there, too.
Not only do I not have ANY clue how to dance, I seriously don’t want to go.
We’re not even dating or anything like that, so she’ll be okay if I don’t go to it tonight, right?

Ballroom dancing is a very formal style of dancing that is used at formal events and in competitions all over the world. Each different type of ballroom dancing has numerous steps and motions that create a beautiful, fluid movement between the partners in the dance. Many individuals that are interested in ballroom dancing hire a professional dance instructor to teach them the steps of the dance in order to ensure that they are doing the dance properly.
There are several different styles of ballroom dancing that an individual may be interested in. The International Standard style of ballroom dancing includes dances such as the Waltz, the Tango, and the Fox Trot, while the International Latin style of ballroom dancing includes dances such as the Samba, the Rumba, and the Cha Cha. In America, there is also an American Smooth style and an American Rhythm style of ballroom dancing.
There are a number of other dances that are commonly classified as ballroom dancing, although they do not belong in the category using traditional classification factors. Many of these dances originated in the Americas and are not generally well known in the international community. Dances that tend to fall into this category include most American swing dances, the Salsa, the Merengue, and the Polka.
Most professional dance instructors will have the ability to teach the proper way to perform a number of these dances. The exact dances that each instructor is willing to teach will vary from instructor to instructor, as some will have more experience in a certain type of dance than others. Individuals may want to inquire which dances the professional dance instructor is willing to teach prior to scheduling a dance lesson in order to guarantee that they will be able to learn the dance that they desire.
Ballroom dancing is one of those items that take a few lessons to learn, but a lifetime to master. Many of the individuals that perform ballroom dancing on a competitive level have been dancing for years, often with the same partner so that they have the ability to communicate the movements and positions perfectly to each other. Individuals that would like to learn ballroom dancing for a less intense performance, such as a wedding reception, will still require multiple lessons to learn the timing and the movements of the dance.
One of the most important aspects of ballroom dancing is the appearance of the dance. Ballroom dancing is supposed to appear formal and classical, which means that the appearance of the individuals performing the dance needs to match the tone of the dance. Many individuals choose to wear traditional costumes of the mid-20th century, usually including a tuxedo and tails for the men and full, flowing colorful gowns for the women.
Over the years, the popularity of ballroom dancing has risen and fallen with the times. The allure and magic of ballroom dancing continues to survive in today’s modern age as the steps of the dances are relearned in each generation. As long as there are movies, music, and events to inspire the delicate movements of ballroom dancing, there will be individuals that are interested in learning the steps and the techniques.
Natalie Beck has been dancing for 15 years, many of those years competitively and teaching dance for 5 years. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, Natalie has the experience to help you with private dance lessons, Sydney wide. Please visit her site for more information.
Where can I find a beginning ballroom class?
1I’m fifteen and love ballroom dancing, I mean its just beautiful. But where can I find beginning dance lessons that are cheap? I might not be staying here in North Carolina for long, I might move back to my old state Florida. I just moved here last summer but we want to go back. Well I have this one girl I really like and we never really do anything together. She likes me too and sent me the song, can I have this dance from High School Musical 3. I want to dance with her before we leave. I want to lead her in the dance. So help me out here people.
Another thing I don’t read the news paper so please don’t suggest that.
Ballroom dancing, but perhaps too young…?
3Hey, I’ve been really into dancing since we did our dance portion for gym class this year. So I’ve been looking for ballroom and hip hop dance classes, and i have found luck with hip hop classes, but not for ballroom dancing! I’m 16, and all the ballroom dancing classes are for older people who are about to get married and stuff, and for most, you need to already have a partner. =[
So anywho, my question is, are there classes for teenagers who want to learn ballroom? (such as foxtrot, jitterbug, salsa, etc.) And plus I don’t want to be paired up with a much older man, and I’d rather not do private lessons.
